Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination

Becoming a registered Professional Engineer is a four step process: graduation, FE exam, work experience, and PE exam. While at IPFW you can undertake the first two steps:

  • Earning your B.S. in an engineering field from an ABET-accredited engineering. The computer, electrical, and mechanical engineering programs at IPFW are ABET accredited.

  • Sitting for the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.

The FE exam tests your knowledge in a broad range of undergraduate science and engineering subjects and is written by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES). The Indiana Profesional Licensing Agency (IPLA) has information regarding licensure in Indiana. For licensure information in other states contact the corresponding licensing board.

The Department of Engineering encourages all of its students to take the FE exam in April of their senior year. In 2008, the FE exam will take place on Saturday, April 12.

IPFW students should complete the student certification form and return to Dr. Mueller. Students must also register and pay for the exam at www.ncees.org. The deadline for registration is February 22, 2008.

Free review sessions have been organized to prepare students for this exam.
