Advising

Students are encouraged to seek advising during faculty office hours or by appointment throughout the semester. The academic advisor is ready to answer questions concerning course work, plan of study, career choice, post-graduation employment opportunities, and professional society memberships.

Each student will have an assigned academic advisor from the faculty of the Department of Engineering. To determine the name of your advisor, go to my.ipfw.edu. Students who have not been assigned an advisor should request one by contacting the department administrative assistant.

Each semester online registration will be blocked for students until they meet with their academic advisors. Students must bring a complete one-year course plan to the meeting. After discussing the course plan with their advisors, students will be able to register online. It is recommended that students contact their advisor prior to the meeting so he/she can be prepared to help them.

On the occasions where the online system doesn't allow registration for a course even though requirements are met, the student should contact the department to have the problem resolved. In some cases, when a registration problem occurs, the student might need to contact the academic advisor.

It is the student's responsibility to check co/prerequisite requirements and time conflicts. For accurate information about course co/prerequisite requirements, students should check these bingo sheets and NOT the IPFW Bulletin.
